Yankee Candle
The Yankee Candle Company, Inc. is the world's leading manufacturer of aroma candles and interior fragrances, and their products are sold in thousands of stores worldwide.
The origins of Yankee Candle date back to 1969. Today, more than 50 years after the company was established, Yankee Candle is a wholly owned subsidiary of Newell Brands, with an international wholesale customer network.
The first approach was made by Yankee Candle in May 2017. Over the next year and a half we carried out a lot of testing, and fine-tuned the graphic and technical design of the labels to suit the client's ideas and demanding requirements. It was only after 18 long months that the first order was actually placed.
The entire project faced several challenges right from the outset. First, we had to certify the materials identical, or as technically similar as possible, to those used by the usual supplier (our competitor) in the USA. The selected materials had to comply with the legislation, as well as in terms of cost-effectiveness and workability on the application lines.
In addition, we had to manage (process/production/logistics-wise) stringent approval procedures for all types of labels, and subsequently a huge influx of orders, all in order to meet the required delivery date.
For Yankee Candle, we print graphic labels with high added value and high demands on the printing process. With a single pass of the flexographic printing machine, we apply rotary screen printing, hot embossing, flexographic printing (a combination of white and CMYK), and final protection with a laminating film that covers the entire label area. The ability to apply all the elements above in a single pass through the machine means significant savings in both the amount of material used and the duration of the entire job.
The material itself is not commonly used, either. To satisfy the client's request for an unobtrusive label, we chose a transparent PP film. This type of material is mainly used for decorating cosmetic and pharmaceutical products packed in glass bottles. For applying the label, we chose a removable glue, thanks to which it can be easily peeled off at any time in future. The entire solution is supported by a transparent PET backing, which ensures a trouble-free application process on the client's packaging line.
The production of labels is carried out using our most state-of-the-art technologies. In addition to the printing machine itself, print quality is ensured by ASAHI's premium flexographic plates. This takes the transmission quality of each printing point to a whole new level. Equally important is print control. The entire production process is supervised by a 100% HD camera, thanks to which we can detect even the smallest imperfection before the label reaches the client.
We flexibly adapted to the clientís exacting requirements and created the tools and environment for seamless collaboration. Managing the whole project was challenging, both in terms of production and process, and especially in terms of the number of all the designs – we are currently working with several thousand active items.
Yankee Candle is one of our top clients, we are very proud to have them, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration and taking on new challenges. This cooperation is, among other things, a testament to the excellent teamwork by everyone at Colognia press involved in orders for Yankee Candle.
"Moving the production of graphic labels from the USA to the Czech Republic was almost unthinkable in the early days. However, with a lot of effort and hard work, everything was successful, and today Colognia press, a.s. is our key supplier. Over the course of our collaboration, we've developed a strong business relationship based on honesty and directness on both sides. Based on this, weíre able to take on new challenges and move forward."
